The University of Wisconsin-Madison boasts the first permanent
installation of Turbosound Flashlight in the USA. The system is
installed in Camp Randall Stadium, home of the Big Ten Conference
Wisconsin Badgers football team.
Flashlight is used as a sophisticated public address system for the
crowds of 77,000 people. It consists of eleven Flashlight hi packs,
housed in specially constructed recessed enclosures which protect the
speakers from bad weather.
The system was asked to provide an intelligible sound quality
everywhere in the stadium at a level capable of getting over the
tremendous ambient noise created by the cheering crowd. It had to
deliver high sound pressure levels intelligibly without distortion,
to as much as 750 feet away. Also, since there was limited space
available, the system had to be small.
According to system contractor John Westra of Milam Audio
Corporation, "the response from the customer has been excellent. They
feel they have the best stadium sound system in the country."
