| For
those of you who missed it, prolight+sound 2008
was an unqualified success for Turbosound, with the
launch of highly significant new product ranges at
totally opposite ends of the sound reinforcement spectrum.
The highlight of the show was of course the preview
of Turbosound's first line array product:
Flex Array. But it is a line array with a
difference - Flex Array is also an authentic point
source product. Imagine all the sound reinforcement
applications you might throw at a single speaker box,
and more - corporate rental, theatre tours, small
outdoor festivals... Flex Array will tackle it all.
So why did we produce a line array?
Well, it certainly wasn't for a lack of thinking about
it! Actually, Flex Array would not have been possible
but for the development of the Polyhorn - the high
frequency Dendritic waveguide is a direct descendant
of the Aspect 890 Polyhorn, and it is this marriage
of the two types of horn in a closely-spaced, physically
aligned waveguide that gives Flex Array its unique
75° horizontal dispersion properties, resulting
in a more useable horizontal pattern than the more
commonly available fixed 90° dispersion.
So, that would make this the only type of
loudspeaker box that a typical rental company might
need in its inventory, right? Right. Because
it's flexible (hence its name): Flex Array is also
a genuine point-source product, thanks to the rotatable
mid-high section, ideal for corporate work and distributed
systems.

Flex Array is a medium–scale professional sound
reinforcement system that combines elements of Turbosound's
patented point source system with well proven line
array technology, resulting in a truly versatile,
one-box-fits-all loudspeaker product suitable for
a huge variety of venue types. By simply changing
the orientation of the cabinet, one enclosure type
is capable of being used in either line array or point
source configurations. The ability to rotate the mid/high
waveguide within the enclosure gives additional flexibility
of use from only one type of box.

The all-new Flex Array system has been designed from
the ground up, resulting from a six-year development
cycle closely related to the development of the Polyhorn™,
and utilises Turbosound's patent-pending Dendritic
horn, which produces a line source element with superior
directional qualities together with trademark Turbosound
clarity and definition. All neodymium drive units
ensure that weight is kept to a minimum for easy trucking
and handling. The 6.5" mid-high drive unit is
uniquely manufactured completely in-house.

Flex Array is fully arrayable with flyware integrated
into the box in two modes: 'A' mode line array format
(pictured at extreme left) or 'B' mode point source
format (pictured at left) for rapid setup with no
external parts. The enclosure can also be used with
external yokes and brackets for semi-permanent and
fixed installations. The horn-loaded low frequency
cabinet utilises a high power neodymium 18" drive
unit and can either be flown with mid/highs, or ground
stacked.
Digitally self-powered and networkable versions with
integrated lightweight Class D amplifier modules are
also available, making Flex Array products ideal for
the corporate market as well as for live sound applications.
