An Aspect® system recently ensured that perfect sound accompanied the perfect weather, as thousands of revellers enjoyed an open-air dance party in Melbourne, Australia.
Hosted by radio station Kiss FM, the Kiss My Grass event was held at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and attracted 10,000 people, who were treated to the high fidelity sound of Aspect.
Supplied by Australian distributor Audio Telex Communications, the Aspect system served a double purpose - firstly of course to ensure that the huge crowd derived maximum enjoyment for the event. But it was also being put through its paces for a local sound company who were looking to buy a new audio system.
That company - Pro Light and Sound - took care of all the audio and lighting for the event. Don McConnell and Shane Myers from Audio Telex set up the system. They then let the Pro Light and Sound team take control to see just how pleasurable working with the Aspect system is.
"We were there purely as a backup, but Aspect is so easy to work with that we just sat back to enjoy the atmosphere and the beautiful 36 degree Melbourne weather," says Don with a smile. "It was a tough job, but someone had to do it!"
The small size of the Aspect system required to deliver sound to 10,000 people was well illustrated by the fact that just six TA-880H and eight TA-880L cabinets were deployed, augmented by four TSW-718 subs and a pair of TXD-252 delays. TCS series monitors were also used for DJ foldback, while four QLight TQ-440s and four TQ-425s were used for a supplementary, smaller stage.
"It's amazing what such a physically small system is capable of," says Don McConnell. "The entire system took no more than 20 minutes to stack, strap and cable - and about five minutes to tweak. Yet it sounded great, with lots of energy across the whole frequency spectrum. The throw was absolutely incredible and the sound was loud way up the hill, even with the delays turned off."
"The noise police were also happy, as the system was kicking inside but without the wind taking sound where it's not wanted, "a common problem with other systems used in this venue," he continues. "The promoter, venue and noise police were stunned at how controlled the sound was. They all wrote down the name of the system."
10,000 partying Australians had a thoroughly good time - but what did Pro Light and Sound think of Aspect? "Truly phenomenal - I have never heard anything like it," were the words of the company's Stav Hatzipantelis.
Indeed, Stav and his team were so happy with the performance of Aspect that they bought their own system immediately afterwards.
