Leading audio hire company Britannia Row Productions has enhanced its core stock with the recent delivery of a substantial Turbosound Aspect® system, which was immediately put to work with Brit Award nominees The Magic Numbers.
The short British stint for
this band that appeared -
magically - on indie fan's
radars after their appearance
at last year's Glastonbury
Festival, took place during
February in a selection of
eclectic UK venues. Called,
quite simply, The Magic
Numbers, the tour includes
a visit to mainland Europe
during March before heading
over the pond for the US leg,
which takes them across
North America from Texas to
New York.
The first date on the tour
was London's Brixton Academy,
where the Turbosound Aspect
loudspeaker system comprised
2-wide flown arrays of TA-890Hs and
TA-890Ls, and ground stacks of
TA-890Ls and TSW-218s, along
with QLight TQ-440SPs
for fill.
"It's exciting to be
involved in a loudspeaker
system that's so new," says
Front of House Engineer Joe
Harling. "It sounds good: the
drums are punchy; the subs
sound really good; and there's
no problem with headroom."
The 5-way system ran off two amp racks per side, with the subs, lows and low-mids powered by Turbosound badged MC˛ Audio T-45 amplifiers, and the highs and high-mids by T-25s, chosen for the turnkey Aspect system for their light weight, superb audio quality and high power output.
On stage were eight TFM-450 high performance monitor wedges with a further TFM-450 atop a QLight TQ-425SP subwoofer for drums, and TFL-760H Floodlight cabinets for sidefills. Loudspeaker control was via two XTA DP428 units.
"I took some of the first
Aspect boxes out on Natasha
Bedingfield's first UK tour,"
comments Britannia Row system
technician Anthony King. "They
hadn't built the 18s then, but
it was great to hear the
system. It's very easy to rig
and the flying hardware is
lovely. It's all on the side
of the box - you just need
four chains at the top to hang
it, which means it's a quick
in and a quick out."
"The performance of the
Aspect system has been beyond
all our expectations," adds
Britannia Row's Roly Oliver.
"It has a natural sound and in
Brixton Academy - a venue
renowned for its unforgiving
acoustics - it sounded
absolutely amazing. And that's
without any processing EQ.
"With a relatively small
system, we were able to get
perfect coverage without any
unwanted reflections. Aspect's
flexibility will undoubtedly
enhance our ability to put on
a great show in any
situation."
