Roskilde Festival 2007

This summer's inclement weather wasn't just confined to UK festivals. The Roskilde Festival, one of Europe's biggest live music events, saw nearly four inches of rain fall, half of that on a single day, making it the wettest year in the history of the festival.

But the sold-out audience wasn't about to let the rain and resulting mud spoil its fun, as the crowds enjoyed performances by over 130 bands, including many of the biggest names currently on the planet such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Bjork, My Chemical Romance, Queens of the Stone Age, The Who, The Killers, Basement Jaxx and Alpha Blondy.

The foul conditions also proved the value of Roskilde being a Turbosound stronghold, the Turbosound Aspect® system on the main stage easily coping with the situation, with no compromise to the audio quality for the hardy festival-goers who were determined to make the most of every minute.

Søborg-based DPA Soundco once again supplied the festival's audio requirements and, having had such success with Aspect in 2006, they deployed it for the second year running. Four TA-890H cabinets were flown four wide by six deep, with TA-890Ls stacked three wide by seven high on risers and eight TSW-218 subs per side positioned below.

"We made some adjustments to the system based on last year's settings,” says Turbosound’s chief Aspect designer, Danny Cooklin. "There was extra preparation in the lo mids and new updated limiter settings, letting the PA run at an LEQ of 107dBa over 15 minutes, as noise control is more relaxed in Denmark than in some other places. They like it loud at Roskilde!.

"The visiting engineers were delighted to see that Aspect threw just as well, and in some cases better, than the line array systems they were used to, as well as effortlessly punching through the wind and rain for eight days straight."
