| Offering an airy, contemporary space for patrons to eat and drink in the Greek capital Athens, the Showroom café, bar and restaurant’s location provided some serious challenges for the designers of its audio system. But with Turbosound Impact series loudspeakers installed, the venue’s owners, patrons - and most importantly neighbours - are all very happy.
The modernistic clean lines and mosaic-inlaid columns of Showroom’s 130m2 space look stunning, but with other buildings adjoining the property and also residential floors immediately above it, containing the sound of its music system was a priority if the venue is to be successful. A great deal of technical planning had to go into ensuring that the patrons, but not the neighbours, enjoy high quality sound at levels of up to 100dB SPL.
The acoustic solution was designed by Mr. Menexalis of Thita Mi, who specified Turbosound loudspeakers as the ideal complement to the physical sound-deadening between Showroom and the adjoining spaces.
Eight Turbosound Impact 65T twin five-inch two-way loudspeakers, two Impact 55T compact five-inch loudspeakers and four TSB-110 dual-coil 10-inch bandpass subs were installed by Mr. Galakteros of NGS, which provide seamless audio coverage across the venue, but whose acoustic pattern are ideal for keeping the sound contained.
“This was a challenging project but, when the system was being designed, we quickly realised that the combination of the Impact series and the TSB subs was perfect for this application,” says Pavlos Symperas of Turbosound’s Greek distributor Metro Audio Systems.
“It means no compromises have had to be made with regards to the audio quality or volume inside the venue, but the speakers are also a key element in keeping the sound from being intrusive outside the walls. In addition, the design of the cabinets was ideal for blending in with the modernistic style of Showroom’s décor.”
Indeed, both owners and patrons of Showroom are obviously very happy with the system, as well as those in the adjacent spaces who have had no cause at all for complaint.
“The sound is very good quality and Showroom is full every hour of the day and night! What more proof could you have that the patrons like the system?” says Pavlos.
