Concealed sound quality for latest Swedish clubs

Recently installed in two of Sweden's newest nightclubs, Turbosound loudspeakers are bringing ultimate audio quality to these distinctly high class venues, Ambassadeur in Stockholm and Push in Gothenburg.

Each offers a different clubbing experience but, as both are owned by one of the country's most high profile club owners, the Stureplansgruppen group, the audio quality had to be universally excellent in both.

With its ultra-modern décor, clean design and innovative lighting (all by renowned Swedish designer Alexander Lervik), Push highlights the Swedish reputation for innovation and uncluttered, contemporary design.

Supplied by Turbosound's Swedish distributor New Musik, installation company IVER selected Turbosound's NuQ series, suitably modern loudspeakers to complement the design. Four NuQ-12 and six TSB-212 subs are installed for the dance floor, with four NuQ-8 in the lounge area, four NuQ-10 in the bar and a NuQ-12DP for the main DJ monitor. Six TCS-C50T ceiling loudspeakers are installed in the restrooms, with power for all except the DJ monitor from MC2 E Series amplifiers.

"Because the venue has such a clean, modern design, Stureplansgruppen wanted to ensure that the visual theme was continued throughout," says Häkan Sjöö of New Musik.

"So IVER had to come up with an innovative solution - they physically built the NuQ speakers into the walls, which also helped with potential acoustic problems caused by the club's arched ceiling.

"The system provides the required power and clarity on the dance floor, but contains the high volume levels, with the NuQ-8s and NuQ-10s covering the rest of the venue with lower level sound."

Ambassadeur is a club with a longer history, the name being taken from that of the first nightclub which opened in the same building in 1941. Combining features of the historic building with an all-white interior, here concealment of the Turbosound loudspeakers was achieved in a different way.

"Because the whole interior is in white, all the loudspeakers had to be supplied in this colour, even the subs," says Häkan.

New Musik supplied system installer Sound City with four NuQ-15 and two TSW-218 subs for dancefloor 1, four NuQ-10 and two TSB-212 subs for the smaller dance floor 2, with four TCS-101C and a further two TSB-212 subs in one bar, 20 TCS-081C covering the lounge and second bar, with a TXP-121 for a DJ monitor on each dance floor. Amplification is again by MC2 E Series units.

"They also wanted the NuQ speakers for the dance floors to be hidden in the roof, which provided some challenges," continues Häkan. "But the Turbosound speakers ensured that there is still no compromise on the audio quality. The owners want the best sound and Turbosound is the natural choice."

Indeed, Häkan reports that Stureplansgruppen is very pleased with how both systems are performing. "The owners have a big smiles on their faces!" he says. "They also own a venue called Hell's Kitchen and were so satisfied with the sound we provided there that they now insist on Turbosound loudspeakers in their clubs."
