Regarded as one of the finest choir and orchestral recording environments, Grace Church benefits both technically and aesthetically from Turbosound design.

Grace Presbyterian Church, known throughout the Christian music world as one of the USA's premier choral and orchestral recording environments, was recently fitted out with a completely new Flashlight and Floodlight system. The new system was installed in record time by Houston-based Pro Sound Corp., utilising four TFS-780H Flashlight enclosures to cover the rear of the main church floor and the balcony; four TFL-760Ht Floodlight enclosures covering the front area of the main church floor; eight TSW-721 21" bass enclosures, mounted under the altar in stacks of four per side; and one HiLight THL-2 choir monitor enclosure.

Pro Sound took advantage of all of the benefits of Turbosound components in designing and installing the new sound system at the 18-year-old church, in order to maximise both technical and the aesthetic performance. The company's president, John Wilbanks, supervised the system's design and installation and observed, "This building is highly regarded throughout the industry as a very special place in which to hear and record music. Utilising the razor-sharp sound dispersion patterns found only in Flashlight and Floodlight speaker systems, we were able to keep the sound directed to the listener's ears without disturbing the existing acoustical environment. The result we achieved in this sensitive room with it's multi-million dollar pipe organ was truly amazing and could only have been accomplished with Turbosound," Wilbanks explained. "The first time the new system was used, parishioners told us the sound was incredible."

In addition to great sound, the new system had aesthetic benefits, as well. Working with a local architect, the contracting company was able to perfectly position the Flashlight and Floodlight components over the church floor for maximum coverage, while still maintaining a low visibility profile for the enclosures, in most cases using the existing grille covers. The small size of the TSW-721 subs allowed them literally to be hidden in flower planters in the front of the church. "As a result, we get this tremendous low-frequency response from the system but none of the visual interruption that larger subs would have caused," Wilbanks explains. "In addition, the Floodlight components were painted to match the interior perfectly, and the flying hardware that Turbosound provides allowed us to get the entire installation up and running in just six weeks from when we signed the contract. The great sound we get from Turbosound is a given, and combined with the other advantages these components bring to the table, make Turbosound the only choice for critical installations such as this."
