The most prestigious install is Sydney's Hard Rock Cafe, which needed an audio refit following a kitchen fire that forced the closure of the cafe last year. Risen from the ashes, the phoenix is a fully updated, new look Hard Rock cafe, bursting with new life and Turbosound loudspeakers.

Centre Stage Australia won the contract to design and manage the installation of the complete audio-visual package. Being Melbourne based, Centre Stage sub-contracted Sydney Turbosound dealers, Innovative Lighting and Sound to complete the installation once the design had been agreed to.

The Hard Rock installation is a benchmark for various reasons. Firstly, this installation represents the first break away, worldwide, from their usual loudspeaker manufacturer.

During this year's Entech trade show in Sydney, an opportunity arose to compare the TCS-30 against the franchiser's usual option. The TCS-30 came up trumps after the on-site demo, and the rest is history.

The system is comprised of 34 TCS-30 and four Impact 110.2 spread over seven zones. A number of audio feeds, including a Databeat hard disk video system is fed via a Soundcraft Folio console to an Ashly VCM-88 8-zone VCA controller (only seven zones were utilised). The seven zones were eq'd, time aligned and limited via two four- band digital equaliser/system processors. Nine Crown CE-1000 and two CT-410 amplifiers provide amplification.

Finally, another departure from the global Hard Rock Cafe mould is the live band format, with a mix of local, national and the occasional international act three times a week. The band system is a permanent installation of four TQ-440SP, two TQ-425SP, six TCS-12M, two TCS-15M (four sends of foldback), two Audient ASP-231 dual 31 band eq and two C Audio Pulse amplifiers.

Corporate Audio Services' MD, Graham Rowlands, commented, "All considered, over AUS$150,000 was spent to refurbish the Hard Rock Cafe and the consensus from staff, customers, and all other involved, is that it is better than the original!"
