By day it is an all-day breakfast cafe, ideal for those recovering from the previous night's clubbing or just for reading the paper over a cup of coffee By night, Napa Star in Cyprus transforms into an entertainment pub fuelled by satellite TV, two nights of karaoke and two nights of live music each week. Napa Star is a multi-purpose cafe bar situated on a busy road leading down to the harbour in Ayia Napa. The pub will hold up to 300 people, mainly European tourists many of whom are English.

The sound system was previously based around JBL I330 and Control series loudspeakers. Owners Andreas and Kyriakos wanted something more powerful, and after listening to various cabinets at Turbosound's Cyprus distributor, Theodoulou in Paralimni, decided on products from the TCS and Impact ranges.

It was decided to zone the room into two distinct areas. At the bar, a pair of TCS-56 cabinets are rigged from the wooden ceiling in a horizontal format. This required the HF horns to be rotated through 90 degrees in the cabinets - a feature designed into the product - in order to maintain the fairly tight 60 degrees x 40degrees coverage pattern. On the floor are two TCS-118 subwoofer cabinets crossed over at 130Hz and powered by JBL, QSC and DB amplifiers. In the cafeteria area, where the level is normally lower, eight Impact 50 enclosures and two Impact 110.2 subwoofers are wall mounted around the room. In this way it was easy to pump up the volume at night while retaining a quieter area nearer to the street.

Yiannis Theodoulou had installed the previous system before becoming Turbosound's distributor. "Because the pub was already completely constructed we didn't have a chance to hide cables as we would normally, so this made the cabling slightly more difficult than usual," noted Yiannis, "but we were able to place and aim the loudspeakers correctly, and I am very pleased with the coverage around the room. There are no dead spots at all."

Kyriakos has the final word: "I am very happy with the Turbosound products, particularly in terms of durability and quality. This is why we chose them. With the old system we had to change drive units frequently because the humidity affected them, but the Turbosound speakers have been running for over a year with no problems whatsoever. Even when we run it loud, there is no distortion."
