Razzmatazz, Spain One of Barcelona's best known music venues - Razzmatazz - has recently installed a Turbosound loudspeaker system into the Rex Room (previously known as the Attic). Through local installer Código Sound, Turbosound’s Spanish distributor Lexon supplied QLight™ TQ-310 passive two-way wide dispersion loudspeakers along with TCS-215C from its TCS Compact series, to give this re-designed space the up-to-date performance that today’s discerning club-goers demand. With an overall area of 174m2 and capacity for 250 people, the Rex Room is one of five rooms that make up the impressive 3,700m2 of Razzmatazz, allowing the club to accommodate a variety of acts and genres, as well as hosting a variety of promotional events. The Rex room itself measures 29m x 6m, has low ceilings and a wall of crystal that mirrors the façade of the building, with the remainder of the walls being concrete, all of which provides little absorbency for sound. So, as well as decorating the room in a contrasting black and white theme with curved sofas to give an overall look that is very contemporary, the venue decided to improve the acoustics of the space, the objective being to obtain even distribution of sound pressure levels throughout the area. Código Sound ensured that all corners of the room were covered by positioning QLight™ TQ-310s along the perimeter of the room, thus helping to eliminate reflections from the hard surfaces of the walls. The TQ-310 is a compact passive trapezoidal 2-way loudspeaker designed for an extensive variety of applications in both fixed and mobile installations. It has a 10" LF driver with a 1" HF compression driver on a rotatable 100ºH x 60ºV Converging Elliptical Waveguide (CEW) which delivers smooth HF coverage with low distortion. The TQ-310 was chosen because the venue wanted “a loudspeaker with a small physical size to cope with the low ceilings, but with the performance of a big cabinet.” To accentuate the depth and clarity of the sound next to the DJ booth, two TCS-215C 15” subs, capable of producing 600 watts of power, were positioned to provide the ‘serious hit’ the club wanted to be able to deliver. Código Sound manager Agustín Sierra commented, "We wanted to have a system that was impressive at the time of installation, but would also stand the test of time. So far we are very impressed with the results.” Código Sound sells professional audio and lighting systems in Barcelona, Tarragona, Lérida, Santiago of Compostela and Andorra. The company also has a projects department that handles a complete range of installations and, through sister company Código Records, sells both vinyl and CDs and has its own record label.
