Skye Making
a major impact on Belfast's new
nitespot,
49 Turbosound speakers were installed as part of a highly
specified sound system. The
line-up at Skye includes 16 Impact 80 enclosures, as well as
various QLight models. Designed and installed by RG Design
Light & Sound (Omagh, County Tyrone), Skye's sound
system joins the growing ranks of clubs around the world
that have taken advantage of the QLight loudspeakers'
attributes, which combine compactness and clarity with
power-handling and installation versatility. Colum
O'Neill, RG Design's Technical Director, outlined the
project: "Skye's Entertainment Manager, Eamon Beagon, came
to see us with a requirement for a top-quality system, to
tie in with the club's high-end image. He was interested in
using a Turbosound-based system, as he had heard a number of
our Turbosound installations in other clubs and had been
impressed with the results. Due to space constraints, the
design called for compact enclosures, and QLight systems can
certainly produce the goods, achieving high SPLs from the
small boxes. We have achieved an even sound coverage
throughout the club, with the quieter areas providing good
sound quality without inappropriately excessive levels, but
with plenty of punch in the zones that need it. The results
have pleased everyone, including the DJs, and over 500
people had to be turned away on the club's opening
night!" Accommodating
up to 1200 people, Skye is conceived as a top-end club and
bar facility, and is designed around three main zones - a
combined VIP lounge and members' area; a downstairs club bar
with pool tables, plus the dance floor and DJ areas. The
dance floor zone features four QLight TQ-440 enclosures and
four TQ-425 sub-woofers, with four TQ-310 units providing
coverage off the dance floor itself. A further two TQ-310
units have been installed in the DJ booth, along with a
TQ-115 sub-bass. An LMS-D6 loudspeaker management system
controls the system in the dance floor zone, and the DJ
booth has been equipped with an Allen & Heath Xone:62
mixer, three Technics SL-1200 turntables, and two Pioneer
CDJ-1000 jog-dial CD players. RG
Design Light & Sound has a 20-year history of providing
sound, lighting and A/V systems across both Northern and
Southern Ireland, including numerous club installations, and
with many recent projects featuring Turbosound loudspeaker
systems. The company's long-standing experience and success
in the club market is also attracting interest in its
services from mainland UK. RG Design received Turbosound's
Best Newcomer Award earlier this year, in recognition of the
number of Turbosound models that the company has installed
in its relatively short history of using the
brand.
