Situated near the centre of Ayia Napa, a tiny former fishing village whose transient population swells to several thousand in the heat of summer, it is actually two businesses under one roof and under the same ownership.

On one side: a cafeteria bar, with strong old English medieval style and a modern football flavour; and on the other probably the most upmarket restaurant in Ayia Napa offering up a delicious menu of both traditional Cypriot food and French cuisine. The steaks just have to be the best in town!

Owners Stavros and Antonis have seen their business grow steadily year on year, thanks to the massive popularity of Cyprus, and particularly Ayia Napa, as a holiday destination in recent years. They decided on an upgraded sound system although their budget wasn't big, and contacted Yiannis Theodoulou, Turbosound's distributor in Cyprus.

A major problem in this local area of Ayia Napa is excessive noise, and the police are particularly sensitive to this considering the presence of a number of luxury hotels in the immediate vicinity. So a key factor in the sound system design was a requirement to keep the sound levels very low outside the building, since local laws prohibit excessive noise pollution in the street. The loudspeaker system was therefore based around eight Impact 50's strategically located facing inwards around the room, and placed to avoid any spillage outside of the room. No subwoofers are used as they did not need especially high sound levels; a more important requirement was clarity. The ceiling height in the bar is quite low, and this fact prompted the eventual choice of the Impact 50 speakers. Because of their small size it was possible to wall mount them on the supplied adjustable wall brackets without being too conspicuous or obtrusive.

Stavros's brother, who is the owner of one of Ayia Napa's most celebrated clubs, Car Wash, was already a customer of Yiannis Theodoulou. It was therefore a natural process to get him involved in the supply, design and installation of the system. Says Stavros, "I am very pleased that we achieved our objective of concentrating the sound coverage inside the bar, even though the doors are open literally all the time. I really don't have a problem any more with sound leaking outside to the street." The output from the satellite-fed large screen TV is also fed into the sound sound system, so customers can enjoy MTV while quaffing a cold beer. "I'm particularly impressed with the clarity of the sound, which means that it is not in the least annoying even when we turn it up loud," enthused Stavros.

A new system is planned for the restaurant side next year, which is sure to be another quality Turbosound installation in Ayia Napa.
