Volar The
Lan Kwai Fong area of central Hong Kong boasts a growing
number of venues
that now feature Turbosound-based sound systems, replacing
the prevalence of US-manufactured loudspeakers. Phoenix
Audio and Lighting Technology, our exclusive distributor for
the Chinese territories, has been responsible for the
turnaround, completing its most recent installation at
Volar, a top-end members-only club. Featuring
QLight and TCS loudspeakers, Phoenix Audio's other
recent contracts within the Beijing area have included new
sound systems for a live venue at the Beijing Dance Academy
and the China National Children's Art Theatre, while in
central China, projects have included the Nanhua Grand
Theatre, and the Grand China Club in Changsa. "Volar's
owners and interior designer, X Act Limited, came to us with
a requirement for a top-quality audio, lighting and
visual-display system. The brief was to create something
extraordinary for the relatively stale clubbing scene in
Hong Kong. Due to the space constraints, the design called
for compact loudspeaker enclosures, and QLight systems
can certainly produce the goods, achieving high SPLs from
the small boxes. We have achieved an even sound coverage
throughout the club, with the quieter lounge area providing
good sound quality at appropriately non-excessive levels,
with plenty of punch in the necessary zones. Everyone is
very satisfied with the results, including big-name
international DJs, such as Chicago's Derrick Carter, and
WestBam - one of Germany's leading DJs. More than 1000
people turned up on the club's opening night!"

QLight loudspeakers' compactness, clarity and power
handing has been winning many friends in Hong Kong, with
Volar being no exception. The club's new system also
features TSW sub-bass units, plus TXD and TCS models, and
due to the breadth of Turbosound products being deployed at
Volar, it has become a major reference site for Phoenix
Audio. Mac Lo, the company's Technical Director, outlined
the project:
The
club's interior is divided into two main zones: the lounge
area - a round "O" room - and the dance floor, which
features a DJ stage, with four plasma and projector screens.
Mac Lo's design for the dance floor area includes four
QLight TQ-445 cabinets, four TSW-718 sub-woofers and
six TXD-081 units, plus TXD-115 sub-woofers. Two TCS-59
loudspeakers were installed as DJ monitors, while
loudspeaker management throughout the venue's various zones
is handled by Turbosound's LMS-D6 and LMS-D4
systems.
